In-Person Support: Mothering the Mother
Service Description
***Price is for one 4 hour shift at $50 per hour*** Please complete the intake form before booking! Providing essential support to new families during the critical period after childbirth. I generally aim to support the physical, emotional, and practical needs of the mother, baby, and family. Every mother's needs will vary. Here’s a preview of possible offerings during both day and overnight shifts: Daytime Postpartum Doula Services: Newborn Care & Education: Guidance on feeding (breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, etc.) Newborn care basics Assistance with understanding baby cues and establishing routines Emotional Support: Active listening and compassionate care to help the mother process your birth experience Offering reassurance and encouragement Helping to identify and manage postpartum mood disorders Mother’s Physical Care: Assistance with postpartum recovery (support with perineal care, cesarean incision care, vaginal steaming, teas, belly binding, closing of the bones) Encouraging rest and hydration Support with light exercise or mobility Light Housekeeping & Meal Preparation: Guiding warming meals or snacks for the mother Light household tasks (laundry, dishes, tidying up) Running small errands if necessary Sibling Support: Providing attention and care for older siblings Helping the family adjust to their new dynamics Offering strategies for integrating the new baby into family life Lactation Support: Helping with latch and positioning for breastfeeding Offering tips to manage common breastfeeding challenges (supply, pain etc) Referring to a lactation consultant if needed Education & Resources: Providing information on newborn care, postpartum recovery, and parenting Offering referrals to local resources, such as support groups, therapists, or pediatricians Overnight Services Newborn Care: Caring for the baby throughout the night, allowing parents to rest Feeding the baby (bottle-feeding or bringing the baby to the mother for breastfeeding) Changing diapers and soothing the baby back to sleep Support for Restful Sleep: Creating a restful environment for the mother to maximize sleep Offering strategies for improving sleep quality, especially during nighttime feedings Monitoring the Baby’s Well-being: Keeping track of the baby’s sleep patterns, feeding schedules, and diaper output Notifying parents of any concerns or issues that arise during the night Assistance with Nighttime Feeding: Supporting breastfeeding mothers with positioning
